Week one of Advanced Research and Development Methods, our professor Franz Christian Schneider (formerly of IDEO and Studio De Lucchi Milan) jumped right into the core of the course addressing the semester long project and discussing his key beliefs about innovative design thinking.
Some of the major lecture points that Christian Schneider made were:
-challenging the quantitative with the qualitative
-focusing on areas of clashing and conflict
-locating areas of intervention within existing systems and models
We then as a class did the routine introductions making sure to note what we were particularly interested in (UX research and design, Fashion, Fine Arts, Music Management, Photography, Health) educationally and professionally as well as what we thought we were good at.
After this dry but necessary part of a first class, we then broke off into somewhat of a class mixer looking for potential project teams (3-4 people) built around similar interests while varying in strengths and skill sets.
After some deliberation the project team that I am very excited to work with is made up of 3 talented peers:
With the team in place we began to toy around with project leads, broad themes and topics for which to build our project around. After discussing a number of different ideas and options we decided to focus on the Educational Systems in place asking questions about such things as structure, cost, equality and opportunities, particularly in post secondary education, while focusing our efforts within New York City, we plan to compare models nationally and globally.
Week Two post coming soon! Really excited about this project!
